Book Launch - Empowering Young People
September 8 marked the date of the successful Mazenod Family Fundraising Mass and Dinner held at the Mulgrave Country Club and attended by more than 200 Oblates and guests from around the country. The money raised will be shared between the Rosies Mission and a new Partners in Mission initiative at an orphanage in Vietnam where the money will go to assist with scholarships for students.
The occasion was also used as to launch a new book written by MAMI Director, Fr Christian Fini OMI, under his other title of National Youth Ministry Co-ordinator. This book represents the wisdom a of community, not an individual, and is a reflection on the journey of the Oblate Youth Australia over the last 12 years.
The book, entitled “Empowering Young People”, was officially launched by Fr Chris Ryan MGL, Rector of the Missionaries of God’s Love John Paul II House of Formation in Burwood.
Speaking at the launch, Fr Ryan said, “Empowering Young People offers a theological foundation, a framework and many practical ideas for Catholic youth ministry. There simply aren’t other books that do this for the Australian context,” he said.
“Every idea and suggestion for building and enhancing youth ministry has been tried and tested and they have been simply and clearly presented. Every leader in Catholic youth ministry in this country should have a copy of Empowering Young People in their library,” he concluded.
