The Very Rev Father Louis Lougen OMI, Superior General of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate after consulting the Oblates of the Province and with the consent of the General Council, has announced that Fr Peter Daly OMI will be our next Provincial.
Fr Peter was born in Brisbane on 28th July 1955 and is the first past student of the Oblate Iona College to be appointed Provincial. Fr Peter received the Oblate habit 17th February 1973; made his First Vows 17th February 1974 and was ordained in Brisbane, 7th Dec 1979. Fr Peter brings to the office of Provincial, experiences of most of the works of the Province in Australia. He has ministered in the parishes of St John Vianney in Victoria, St Paul’s Massey in New Zealand and St Eugene’s in Queensland. Most of his ministry has been in the three Oblate Colleges especially in Iona College Brisbane and Mazenod College Western Australia, in both of which he has been Rector.
Fr Peter has been known for his outreaching to people in need. He has been active in the Rosies Outreaches in Queensland. In Mazenod WA where his is currently Rector, he reserves one Sunday each month to celebrate Mass in one of the State’s prisons. He has the distinction among the ‘younger Oblates’ of having preached the traditional parish missions when in 1992 he undertook a number of such missions in South Africa.
Fr Peter has Masters degrees in Theology and Educational Leadership, and a Diploma of Education.
