Fr Louis Lougen OMI, the Superior General of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, visited our parish on the evening of the 1st November to celebrate Mass with us. We were delighted to have him here at Eagle Vale. At the same time too, we had the opportunity to venerate the Oblate cross which belonged to St Eugene De Mazenod, the founder of the Oblate Congregation. During his time in Australia, Fr Louis was also able to visit other Oblate parishes as well. This led him later to mention how he noticed the Oblates were well received by the people and how the Oblates did their best to serve the people entrusted to their pastoral care.
As 2013 draws to a close, so too does my time here with you as your parish priest. My six year term finishes in January and I am to move on. I count myself fortunate to be given these six years with you. Sad as I am to be leaving, I am pleased to tell you that a much younger Oblate priest, Fr Slawek Plonka OMI has been appointed to the parish and will be here by the end of January. Later, there will be an opportunity for you to meet him, details of which are still to be finalised.
During the parish gathering for the annual Christmas Carols on the evening of the 15th December, I was farewelled, even though I do not leave the parish until late in Januaryy. Many thanks for all who participated and contributed so richly and generously to the evening. (see photo gallery)
Knowing that this is a busy time of the year and that there is much movement of people and families I wish to take the opportunity now, on behalf of Fr Donal and myself, to wish you all a very happy and holy Christmas and a safe and good New Year.
